In a world of constant choice, a bombardment of noise, social media and advertising, how do you cut through the facade and ensure you choose the real deal?
What to look for from your Aga company or independent engineer:
- Breadth and depth of expertise – an expert engineer or company should be experienced in a wide range of models and ideally fuel types. They should understand the history of the product and its nuances. Without that time-served knowledge, there’s little to fall back on if things go wrong.
- Track record – everyone has to start somewhere, but the track record of a company is your best protection in an uncertain climate. In the case of an independent engineer, have they trained with Aga or a distributor? Are they Gas Safe? Oftec? What are their payment terms? Do they protect both you and them without applying undue pressure?
- Reviews and customer feedback – Good work speaks for itself. If customers are singing their praises, that’s a promising sign. However, not every independent engineer will have hundreds of online reviews, so don’t be afraid to ask for references or to speak to previous clients. Be cautious if there’s no trace of reviews at all.
- Specialist expertise – Agas, Rayburns, Esse and similar cast-iron cookers demand specialist understanding. General plumbing or heating engineers, however skilled, are seldom equipped with the detailed knowledge required. Inadequate flow rates, misconfigured OCVs, poor flue design, and even unnecessary condemnations can result when these systems are handled incorrectly.
- Being busy – excellent engineers are hard to find and are likely to get booked up well in advance. If there’s a lead time, it’s generally a good sign!
At Rural Ranges Ltd, we pride ourselves on ticking all of the above boxes. Based in Bridport, we’ve built our reputation over years of hands-on work with Agas and cast iron cookers of every vintage, offering servicing and maintenance across Dorset and surrounding counties, alongside reconditioned Aga installations, conversions, and restoration across the UK and beyond.
And if you’re outside our patch? We’re always happy to recommend trusted colleagues who share our values and standards – because when it comes to Agas, the real deal still matters.
