Villagers saddled up for a laughter-filled day at the inaugural Piddletrenthide Pantomime Horse Racing.
This wonderful village event was held at The Manor House, home to James Boughey, who welcomed some 350 villagers and friends for an unforgettable race day, which raised thousands of pounds for All Saints’ Church.
Organised by horse race meet experts there was a cash Tote betting facility, a pre-parade commentary and course-side vets with an emergency team of medics with sirens for fallers, which of course had the crowds roaring.
The event follows the success of the village fete, also held at The Manor House.
Piddletrenthide Pantomime Horse Racing Returns Next Year
Organiser Rebecca Burke said: “It was a massive success, and one of those rare events where everybody was laughing.
“It was such a happy day which appealed to all age groups, so much so that we held an impromptu children’s race, complete with a commentator.
“It was wonderful. The setting was idyllic and without James, his hard work and vision, this event wouldn’t have happened.
“I would say 90% of the organisers have been or are involved with race meetings and so the racecourse, fencing and set up was just as it should be.
“It’s always good to have an event that will make people laugh. And it brings the whole village together.”
So successful was the event, it is to be repeated next year.
