Villagers are poised to make an offer on their pub after a fundraising campaign netted more than half a million pounds.
Residents of Langton Herring are trying to raise £600,000 to buy the historic Elm Tree Inn, and are within £100,000 of their target after donations and a share offer.
They pulled together, attracting global interest via a social media campaign, and raised the astonishing sum in just a few months.
The Friends of the Elm Tree steering committee member Martin Pearson said: “It has been a fantastic effort by all involved to get this far, and the Community Benefit Society we have set up are so grateful to everyone across the globe, but we still need your support!
“Our fundraising campaign is continuing and we will be putting out further media releases today and earlier next week, and new TikTok videos. Please help us to maintain momentum.”
