We’re in the honey! Pupils at Sticklands School become beekeepers at Summer Lodge

Children in Ravens’ Class at Stickland’s School in Evershot have been learning about bees and becoming beekeepers at Summer Lodge.
Once a week, the chair of governors, Suzie Mutch, has been teaching the children the vital role of bees in pollination, enabling children to gain a thorough understanding of why bees are so important and what they do for nature and for us.
Pupils have been creating their own frames coated with beeswax to place in a beehive at Summer Lodge and wearing beekeeper suits, boots and hat, have been observing what the bees have done each week.
One pupil said: “I have learnt a lot of new things about bees that I didn’t know before.”
